Recent Ipsos polling shows the DA and ANC nearly tied at 37% each in Nelson Mandela Bay ahead of the November 4 local government elections, with no party positioned for an outright majority and coalition negotiations likely determining the next mayor selected by the new council. Retief Odendaal leads market pricing as the DA candidate emphasizing professional administration and reversing infrastructure and financial shortfalls documented under the current ANC-led coalition. Andile Lungisa trails amid ANC shortlisting and internal branch nominations, while incumbent Babalwa Lobishe and lower-polling EFF candidate Sinawo Thambo reflect party fragmentation and voter shifts. Recent exchanges over candidate lists and service-delivery critiques have kept probabilities compressed, with separation possible after final slates, voter turnout patterns, and post-election coalition math become clearer.
