Recent August ISM Manufacturing PMI data at 54.6, down from July’s 55.6 high, anchors trader positioning for the September release, with the largest probability clusters concentrated in the 53.0–55.9 range. Moderating new orders, softer backlogs, and cooling employment growth point to some loss of momentum after mid-year strength, while robust production and still-low customer inventories provide a floor. Persistent input price pressures at 71.1, lengthening supplier deliveries, and ongoing tariff and geopolitical uncertainties continue to weigh on sentiment. Market-implied odds reflect these mixed signals, with the closely bunched probabilities underscoring uncertainty ahead of the October 1 release and any potential shifts in demand or cost trends.
