**Union Centriste currently holds 59 seats in the French Senate and has 30 of them up for renewal in the September 27, 2026, partial elections for 178 seats.** Trader probabilities cluster around 56-61 seats post-election, reflecting expectations of broad stability or modest net change. The group’s position benefits from the indirect electoral system, where municipal council delegates—shaped by recent local elections favoring right and center forces—play the decisive role. UC President Hervé Marseille has publicly targeted stability, noting that local gains can offset losses in rural departments with many small, non-partisan communes. The group’s integration into the LR-led majority provides structural advantages in alliances and committee influence. Potential upside stems from opportunities to overtake the Socialist group (currently 64 seats) if PS loses ground while UC holds or gains a few seats. Countervailing pressures include RN efforts to build a first Senate group in departments where it performed well municipally, and competition from other centrist or independent lists. With candidacy filings only recently opened and the vote just over two weeks away, limited late developments leave the market anchored on continuity in the center-right bloc rather than major realignment.
