Abiy Ahmed’s commanding position in this market stems from his Prosperity Party’s decisive June 2026 general election victory, which delivered a parliamentary majority of 438 seats and cleared the path for his reappointment by the House of Peoples’ Representatives in October. Ongoing economic reforms, infrastructure initiatives, and the party’s emphasis on national dialogue have reinforced trader confidence in continuity despite security challenges in Amhara, Oromia, and Tigray. Potential shifts could arise from unresolved regional insurgencies, implementation of proposed constitutional changes such as an executive presidency, or sudden internal party dynamics, though none currently appear positioned to alter the near-term outcome reflected in the 96.9% consensus.
