Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish August 28 Jackson Hole remarks, stressing that the central bank still has “work to do” on inflation and remains ready to act, have become the dominant driver of trader focus ahead of the September 15-16 FOMC meeting and press conference. With the Fed’s preferred PCE measure at 3.3% year-over-year and six-month core readings near 4.1%, markets have lifted the implied probability of a 25-basis-point hike to roughly 57-70% on futures pricing. Stable labor conditions, with unemployment near 4.1%, and the September 11 CPI release will shape the data-dependent path, while Warsh’s continued aversion to forward guidance and ongoing task-force reviews of communications and policy tools add uncertainty around specific phrasing or commitments during the press conference.
