August nonfarm payrolls rose 162,000 with unemployment steady at 4.1%, while July CPI showed a 3.4% year-over-year pace and 2.5% core rate. Supply shocks tied to Middle East tensions and energy prices have kept price pressures elevated, prompting economists in recent Reuters polls to favor holding the 3.50%-3.75% federal funds range through year-end and pushing projected cuts into 2027. Markets now price a roughly 60% probability of a 25-basis-point hike in September. The August CPI release on September 11 and FOMC communications will provide key signals ahead of the policy decision.
