Midterm elections set for November 2026 serve as a key test of voter sentiment and could amplify or dampen rating volatility depending on results and turnout. Recent developments such as budget negotiations, executive actions on tariffs or border measures, and any major foreign policy events have produced measurable shifts in polling averages from multiple firms. Traders assess the likelihood of deeper dips by tracking these catalysts against historical patterns for second-term presidents, noting that sustained economic softness or high-profile policy setbacks tend to exert downward pressure while positive data releases can stabilize or lift numbers.
