The 2026 Burnaby, BC mayoral election is currently scheduled to be held on October 17, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next mayor of Burnaby as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". The primary resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting; however, if there is any ambiguity in the results, this market will resolve according to official information from Burnaby.Incumbent Mike Hurley holds a commanding 92.5% implied probability in the Burnaby mayoral market, reflecting his established position as an independent with cross-party backing ahead of the October 17, 2026, election. He defeated the prior long-serving mayor in 2018 and was acclaimed in 2022, building on a record of adding substantial housing stock, creating the Burnaby Housing Authority for below-market units, and advancing community infrastructure while emphasizing fiscal restraint. The Burnaby Citizens Association has declined to field a mayoral challenger, and the limited field—primarily Heymann Yip of Burnaby First and independent Michael Angelo—has not generated significant momentum. Recent developments include Hurley’s August re-election announcement, his early-September platform on affordability and permitting reforms, and a federal housing funding event in early September. Late nomination surprises, major unforeseen events, or shifts in voter turnout could still alter the outcome before voting day.
