**The closely matched market-implied odds favoring a 0.5% (34%) or 0.4% (28.5%) September monthly CPI print reflect uncertainty over energy volatility and core services momentum after August’s 0.4% headline and 0.3% core gains.** Gasoline prices jumped 3.9% in August, driving more than one-third of the increase and lifting energy 2.1% amid higher oil costs and trade tensions, while shelter eased to 3.0% year-over-year. Consumer sentiment fell to 47.8 in early September with one-year inflation expectations rising to 4.6%, the highest since June, per University of Michigan data. Cleveland Fed nowcasts place September year-over-year CPI near 3.43%. Traders are weighing these inputs against the September FOMC meeting and upcoming labor and producer-price releases that could shift the near-term rate path priced into Treasury yields.
