Recent Middle East conflict-driven energy price spikes have lifted Canada’s headline CPI to 3.0% year-over-year in July 2026, with gasoline the dominant driver, while core measures remain near 2%. Bank of Canada projections in the July Monetary Policy Report anticipate inflation easing toward 2.5% through the second half of the year as oil prices moderate along the futures curve, supporting the closely matched market-implied odds between the 2.5–2.9% and 3.0–3.4% annual outcomes. Traders weigh the durability of these temporary cost pressures against subdued shelter and services inflation, a 2.25% policy rate held steady on September 2, and risks from U.S. tariffs or further oil volatility ahead of the August CPI release on September 14.
