Recent surges in global energy prices from the Middle East conflict have lifted UK CPI inflation to 2.9% in July 2026, with the Bank of England projecting a near-term peak near 3.2% in Q4 as higher costs pass through utility bills and supply chains. This dynamic underpins the leading 3.5–3.9% band for the 2026 annual average, as market-implied odds price in moderate persistence of the shock without strong second-round wage pressures. Economic slack, rising unemployment around 5%, and contained core inflation near 2.6% limit upside risks, while subdued growth forecasts near 1.1% cap the scope for significantly lower outcomes. Key upcoming catalysts include September CPI data and BoE communications on monetary policy.
