Incumbent Republican Michael Baumgartner holds a strong position in Washington's 5th congressional district for the November 3 general election, reflecting the area's R+5 partisan voting index and consistent Republican performance in recent cycles. Baumgartner won the 2024 contest by 21 points and advanced from the August 4 top-two primary with 47% of the vote, ahead of Democrat Carmela Conroy at 19%. Conroy, the 2024 nominee and a former diplomat, secured the second slot for a rematch but trails significantly in fundraising. A recent debate highlighted foreign policy differences, including Iran and tariffs, though no major shifts in voter sentiment have emerged. Trader consensus aligns with historical margins and the absence of competitive challengers in this eastern Washington seat.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
