Recent Focus survey data released September 14 show market economists trimming their 2026 IPCA median to 4.90 percent for the third straight week, reflecting August’s -0.32 percent monthly print and a 12-month rate of 4.22 percent. Cooling domestic demand, lower food and energy prices, and the Central Bank’s ongoing 25-basis-point Selic easing cycle to 13.75 percent have supported the downward revisions, even as services inflation and supply-side pressures remain notable. With GDP growth forecasts also lowered to 1.89 percent, trader sentiment remains closely split between the 4.50-4.99 percent and 5.00-5.49 percent ranges, both still above the 4.5 percent upper tolerance band. The next Copom meeting and fresh September inflation data will provide further signals ahead of year-end resolution.
