Recent monthly CPI prints rising to 4.57% in July 2026 and expectations near 4.9% for August, driven by food price pressures from deficient rainfall and higher crude oil costs tied to West Asia tensions, underpin the 90.5% market-implied probability for 2026 annual inflation averaging 4.50% or higher. The Reserve Bank of India has revised its FY27 CPI forecast to 5.0-5.1%, with quarterly peaks projected at 5.9%, while holding the repo rate at 5.25% amid balanced risks and limited core pressures so far. Traders price in sustained above-target readings through year-end given these supply-side factors and base effects. Key swing risks include sharper oil price declines, improved monsoon outcomes supporting rabi crops, or stronger policy measures curbing pass-through to consumers, any of which could pull the annual average below the threshold.
