China’s 2026 annual CPI inflation has settled in a narrow low-positive range amid subdued domestic demand and uneven cost pressures. Year-to-date readings through August show headline inflation averaging near 0.8 percent, with food prices remaining a drag while non-food components, particularly transport and energy, provided modest lifts from higher global commodity costs. Producer prices have rebounded more sharply on input costs, yet weak consumer spending has limited pass-through to the CPI basket. Analysts have adjusted full-year forecasts upward modestly to around 0.9 percent, citing stable core readings near 1 percent and limited further downside from pork deflation. These trends underpin trader consensus around the 0.6–1.0 percent bracket as the most probable annual outcome.
