Maine’s 2nd Congressional District race features former Republican Governor Paul LePage against Democratic nominee Matthew Dunlap following the retirement of incumbent Jared Golden. The district’s Republican tilt, shown by Donald Trump’s 2024 margin, underpins trader consensus favoring LePage, reinforced by his stronger fundraising and unopposed primary. Dunlap secured the Democratic nomination through ranked-choice voting in June after a tight four-candidate contest. A July poll showed the candidates essentially tied, highlighting the seat’s battleground status. Limited subsequent developments have kept probabilities close, with separation likely hinging on fall advertising, turnout in rural areas, and any late national shifts affecting this open-seat contest.
