Incumbent Keith Ellison secured the Democratic nomination in the August 11 primary with over 84 percent of the vote and faces Republican Ronald J. Schutz in the November 3 general election. Traders assign Ellison an 82 percent implied probability of victory, reflecting Minnesota’s long Democratic hold on the attorney general office and the state’s overall partisan lean, despite a mid-August KSTP/SurveyUSA poll showing a statistical tie. Schutz, a former law firm chairman and Army JAG veteran, won his primary unopposed and emphasizes crime reduction, fraud accountability, and law enforcement support. No other candidates qualified for the ballot. The race remains the first realistic Republican opportunity in six decades, with upcoming campaign events and any shifts in voter sentiment on public safety or state governance likely to influence trader assessments through election day.
