Official National Weather Service observations at Chicago O’Hare and Midway airports recorded a daily maximum of 80°F on September 9, 2026, aligning closely with the market’s overwhelming 78-79°F consensus at near-100% implied probability. This outcome reflects a modest positive departure from the 1991-2020 normal high near 78-79°F, influenced by persistent cloud cover, light rain, and fog that limited further warming despite regional late-summer warmth. Forecast model consensus and real-time station data converged on this narrow range well before sunset, leaving minimal room for revision. Realistic challenges would require significant post-observation adjustments to official climatological reports or redefinition of the “highest temperature” metric, both highly unlikely given established NWS verification protocols.
