Recent geopolitical tensions, particularly the U.S.-Iran conflict elevating global energy prices, have driven the primary upward pressure on U.K. CPI inflation, with the annual rate rising to 2.9% in July 2026 from 2.6% in June. The Bank of England’s July Monetary Policy Report projects a near-term peak near 3.2% in 2026 Q4 due to direct and indirect energy pass-through, alongside food price contributions, before fading base effects support moderation. This dynamic creates closely matched trader sentiment between the 3.5–3.9% and 2.0–2.4% annual bands, as markets weigh risks of persistent second-round effects against underlying disinflation in goods and services. Key near-term catalysts include the August CPI release and upcoming MPC decisions amid elevated Treasury yields and monetary policy uncertainty.
