Official National Weather Service observations recorded a daily maximum of 89°F in Atlanta on September 9, 2026, at 3:05 PM local time, with clear skies, light easterly winds, and no precipitation—directly confirming the 88–89°F bin at near-certainty. This outcome aligned with above-normal warmth (3°F above the 1991–2020 average high of 86°F) driven by a stalled frontal boundary and persistent high pressure, though slightly below pre-event model guidance near 91°F. Historical September maxima average 85°F, with rare excursions to 99°F, underscoring why traders assigned negligible probability to bins outside 88–89°F once preliminary data emerged. Minor forecast revisions or station microclimate differences represent the only realistic scenarios that could have altered resolution, but verified readings locked in consensus.
