Recent South Korean CPI data, including a rebound to 3.1% year-over-year in August 2026 from 2.8% in July amid base effects and rising core inflation at 3.4%, have reinforced trader focus on persistent price pressures. The Bank of Korea's August upgrade of its 2026 GDP growth forecast to 3.3%—driven by semiconductor exports and domestic demand recovery—while holding its official inflation projection at 2.7% highlights the tension between accelerating demand-side forces and fading supply shocks. Market-implied odds, with 3.0%+ leading at 31.9% followed closely by the 2.4-2.6% band, reflect uncertainty over whether core trends and policy tightening to a 3% base rate will keep full-year inflation in the upper-2% range or push it higher amid elevated oil prices and a weak won. Upcoming monthly CPI releases and BOK communications remain key near-term catalysts.
