Waymo’s current 15-city U.S. robotaxi footprint, built through rapid 2026 launches including Denver, San Diego, Tampa, and Las Vegas in September, has not shifted trader consensus toward higher totals by year-end. The market-implied odds favoring under 12 cities reflect regulatory approval bottlenecks, the strict definition of commercial paid service in distinct metros, and the pace needed to convert announced testing into fully driverless operations before December 31. Recent fleet scaling with sixth-generation vehicles on Zeekr and Hyundai platforms, plus Uber partnerships, supports steady but measured growth rather than an accelerated push past 15. Key upcoming catalysts include further California county expansions and potential Las Vegas scaling, though historical timelines suggest limited additional cities will clear all hurdles in the final quarter.

A city counts if riders can book a Waymo vehicle through either the Waymo One app or the Uber app at that time. Any taxi service available to the general public which operates without a human driver actively controlling the vehicle will count, regardless of membership or other financial restrictions. Limited pilot programs, internal employee testing, or invite-only service will not qualify.
If Waymo describes a broader region (e.g., “Los Angeles County” or “San Francisco Bay Area”) as a single service area, it will count as one city/region for this market.
The primary resolution source is official information from Waymo, however a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
