Canada’s annual inflation rate for 2026 is currently priced with the strongest trader consensus around 2.5–2.9 percent, reflecting the impact of elevated gasoline prices tied to Middle East supply disruptions that lifted headline CPI to 3.0 percent in July and 3.2 percent in May. Core measures excluding energy have stayed near 2.2 percent, while the Bank of Canada has held its policy rate at 2.25 percent amid stable underlying inflation and economic slack. Projections from the July Monetary Policy Report anticipate easing toward 2.5 percent in the second half of the year, assuming oil prices moderate, though upside risks from persistent energy costs and new U.S. tariffs remain. The August CPI release due September 14 and the October Monetary Policy Report represent key near-term catalysts that could shift implied probabilities.
