Recent August 2026 PPI data printed at 5.4% year-over-year, exceeding consensus by 0.1 percentage point amid a 0.4% monthly rise driven largely by final demand energy costs surging 4.2%, with diesel prices jumping over 24%. This follows an upward trend from 4.7-4.8% earlier in the summer and aligns with core measures holding near 4.6-4.7%, signaling broad pipeline pressures beyond volatile components. Trader consensus across the outcome ladder, with 5.9%+ carrying the highest implied probability at 33.5%, reflects ongoing energy supply constraints and services inflation that could sustain or accelerate the annual rate into September. Key swing factors include the trajectory of goods prices, any moderation in monthly changes, and labor or trade margin contributions, while upcoming CPI and broader Fed communications on the 3.75-4.00% target range will shape expectations ahead of the mid-October release.

The resolution source for this market will be the BLS Producer Price Index report released for September 2026 (https://www.bls.gov/ppi/), currently scheduled to be released on October 15, 2026, at 8:30 AM ET. Resolution of this market will take place upon release of the aforementioned data.
