August nonfarm payrolls added 162,000 jobs—well above forecasts—with the unemployment rate steady at 4.1%, while July CPI rose 3.4% year-over-year and core 2.5%. Market-implied odds now price roughly a 60% chance of a September hike, up from about 50% prior to the jobs report, reflecting resilient demand and supply-side inflation risks. The August CPI release on September 11 will be the final major data point before the decision, with the federal funds rate currently at 3.50-3.75%.
