Recent Middle East conflict-driven energy price surges have weighed on euro area growth prospects for 2026, prompting downward revisions in consensus forecasts to the 0.7-0.9% range amid higher inflation and subdued domestic demand. Q2 2026 GDP expanded 0.6% quarter-on-quarter and 1.2% year-on-year, with upward revisions reflecting resilience in Spain and Germany alongside AI-related investment, yet offset by Ireland volatility and net export weakness. Trader sentiment remains evenly split between the 0-1.0% and 1.0-2.0% brackets as markets price in the balance between fiscal easing, ECB rate path expectations, and persistent geopolitical risks that could further compress activity or extend the inflation shock. Upcoming data releases and any de-escalation signals will likely influence positioning ahead of year-end resolution.
