**Lee Jae-myung’s Democratic Party holds a clear majority (161 of 300 seats) in South Korea’s National Assembly, while the main opposition People Power Party controls roughly 110 seats.** Impeachment requires a two-thirds supermajority (200 votes), so any motion would need substantial cross-party defections that have not materialized. An opposition-backed petition for impeachment collected over 100,000 signatures in June 2026 and advanced to committee, but the ruling party’s control has prevented further progress. Recent developments reinforce this positioning. In a September 18 press conference, Lee addressed public concerns over his falling approval ratings (recently in the mid-30s), ruled out any constitutional amendment for re-election, and sought to defuse controversy around a special-counsel bill. No new legislative or public actions have emerged to build the cross-aisle consensus required for passage. Trader consensus reflected in the 94% “No” price aligns with these structural barriers and the absence of viable momentum for removal before the end of 2026.

For this market to resolve to "Yes" it is only necessary that the National Assembly propose and approve a motion of impeachment against Lee Jae-myung, regardless of whether the Constitutional Court later upholds the impeachment.
The primary resolution source for this market is official information from the South Korean government, however a consensus of credible reporting may be used.
