This market will resolve based on the countries that officially recognize Palestine as a state by December 31, 2026, 11:59pm ET. An announcement of intentions will not suffice to resolve this market to "Yes." Only a government's formal recognition of the State of Palestine will count toward a “Yes” resolution for this market. The primary resolution source for this market will be official government information. However, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Recent diplomatic momentum stems from the September 2025 wave of recognitions at the UN General Assembly, when France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Portugal, Luxembourg, Malta, Andorra, Monaco, and San Marino formally acknowledged Palestinian statehood amid coordinated France-Saudi efforts to advance a two-state solution. This brought the total near 158 of 193 UN members, following earlier 2024-2025 moves by Spain, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, and Mexico. As of September 2026, Belgium has initiated its recognition process conditional on Hamas's exclusion from governance, while holdouts including the United States, Germany, Italy, and Japan maintain opposition tied to bilateral negotiations and security conditions. Key upcoming catalysts include the UN Palestinian Rights Committee sessions, Palestinian legislative and presidential elections slated for late 2026 and early 2027, and ongoing Arab-Muslim statements reaffirming statehood support.
