Recent moderation in new orders and backlogs, following July’s 55.6 peak, has anchored trader expectations for the September ISM Manufacturing PMI near 54–55. August’s 54.6 reading marked the eighth straight month of expansion but showed cooling demand and persistent price pressures at 71.1, driven by tariffs, Middle East-related energy costs, and supply-chain strains. Broader indicators, including the NY Fed’s September manufacturing survey and S&P Global data around 53.9, reinforce a steady but decelerating expansion path. With probabilities tightly distributed across the 53–55 range, outcomes hinge on whether new orders stabilize or soften further ahead of the October 1 release.
