Lai Jui-lung, the Democratic Progressive Party nominee and former legislator with prior Kaohsiung city government experience, holds a clear lead in the November 28, 2026 mayoral race. Recent polls from mid-2026, including telephone surveys by Mirror Media and Taiwan Brain Trust, show him ahead of Kuomintang candidate Ko Chih-en by 15–20 points in some samples, though narrower gaps appear in certain online polls. Kaohsiung’s status as a DPP-leaning municipality, combined with strong approval ratings for outgoing mayor Chen Chi-mai, has helped consolidate support for Lai following his January 2026 primary victory. Ko has focused on consolidating opposition and independent voters through youth-oriented platforms on jobs and housing, but the current trader consensus reflects the structural and polling advantages favoring the DPP contender. Minor candidates and independents remain far behind.
