Recent August CPI data showed headline inflation holding at 3.4% year-over-year with a 0.4% monthly rise, driven by energy prices surging amid Middle East tensions and gasoline up 27.4% annually. Core CPI eased slightly to 2.4% y/y yet posted a firmer 0.3% monthly gain, while University of Michigan surveys indicated one-year inflation expectations climbing to 4.6%. These developments sustain trader focus on whether September readings will stabilize near recent prints or accelerate further before the October 14 release. Market-implied odds cluster tightly around 3.5% and 3.6%, reflecting uncertainty over energy pass-through, shelter trends, and any early signs of broader price pressures ahead of the September FOMC meeting.
