Recent polling from institutes including Quaest, IPPI, and others shows Roseana Sarney (MDB) holding a consistent lead for one Senate seat in Maranhão, while Weverton Rocha (PDT), André Fufuca (PP), Lahesio Bonfim (Novo), and Eliziane Gama (PT) remain tightly bunched for second place within margins of error. Combined first- and second-choice intentions in late August and early September surveys place these contenders between roughly 7% and 23%, reflecting a fragmented electorate and high spontaneous indecision rates above 80% in some samples. Regional strengths, such as Sarney and Gama’s ties to São Luís versus Rocha and Bonfim’s broader state outreach, along with ongoing free electoral advertising and alliance formations ahead of the October 4 vote, continue to shape the close contest for the second vacancy.
