The federal funds rate remains at 3.50%-3.75% following the July 29 hold, with markets pricing roughly 50-60% odds of a 25-basis-point hike at the September 15-16 FOMC meeting amid August job gains of 162,000 and CPI near 3.4%. Elevated energy prices from Middle East supply shocks and upward revisions to end-2026 rate projections in the June dot plot reinforce expectations that policy will stay restrictive longer than previously anticipated. Key upcoming catalysts include the September CPI release, the FOMC decision, and further labor data that could either solidify hike odds or reopen a narrow path to easing if inflation moderates sharply.
