Recent Eurozone inflation data and ECB staff projections underpin the 81.3% market-implied odds on 3.1%+ annual HICP inflation for 2026. The primary driver remains the Middle East conflict’s impact on energy prices, which pushed the August 2026 flash reading to 3.3% year-over-year, with energy inflation at 14.3%. September 2026 ECB projections hold the 2026 headline forecast steady at 3.0%, citing sustained energy pass-through into the fourth quarter, while noting upside risks from prolonged volatility and limited second-round effects so far. Traders appear to price in a higher realized annual average than the baseline, given the recent acceleration and the deposit rate’s second 25-basis-point hike this year to 2.5%. Core measures excluding energy and food remain near 2.5%, supporting expectations that the headline overshoot will persist through year-end.
