China’s annual CPI inflation for 2026 has settled near the lower end of historical ranges, with the 0.6–1.0% bracket holding a 54.5% market share as traders price in subdued domestic demand and persistent food deflation. Year-to-date readings show monthly year-on-year rates fluctuating between 0.2% and 1.3% before rebounding to 0.8% in August, driven by higher energy and non-food prices that offset ongoing weakness in pork and other foodstuffs. Core inflation edged to 1.0% while the producer price index accelerated to 3.8%, reflecting imported cost pressures amid global commodity movements. Analysts project a full-year average near 0.9%, consistent with the current leading outcome, as limited consumption recovery continues to cap broader price gains.
