This market will resolve according to the total number of valid votes cast in the 2026 midterm election for Governor of California. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher range bracket. If the results of the specified election are not definitively known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to the lowest range bracket. All votes certified for candidates or non-candidate options in the specified election are included. Invalidated or blank votes are not included. In ranked-choice or preferential systems, the first-round vote total will be used. The primary resolution source for this market will be the official results of the 2026 midterm election for Governor of California, as published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying the results of the election; however, an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used.**The non-competitive nature of the November 3, 2026, California gubernatorial race—where Democrat Xavier Becerra leads Republican Steve Hilton by roughly 22 points in recent polling—has shaped trader expectations for moderate turnout centered on the 13–13.5 million vote range.** With roughly 23.2 million registered voters and an open seat following Gavin Newsom’s term limit, the race features limited swing-state dynamics or high-stakes drama that typically boost participation. Recent PPIC surveys show 58% of likely voters viewing this election as more important than prior midterms, driven by affordability concerns and 14 ballot propositions (including tax and bond measures), alongside concurrent U.S. House contests. Primary turnout reached about 40.8% of registered voters, while historical midterm general election participation often falls in the low-to-mid 50% range. The lopsided contest and absence of late-breaking catalysts support the current market distribution favoring solid but not exceptional participation.
