Incumbent Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez advanced from the August 2026 top-two primary with 38.9% of the vote alongside Republican John Braun at 38.7%, setting up a November general election in a district that voted for Donald Trump in 2024. Perez’s prior narrow wins in 2022 and 2024, combined with her established fundraising edge and centrist positioning, underpin trader expectations of her strong position. Braun, the state Senate minority leader with a Trump endorsement, consolidated Republican support but faces the challenge of overcoming an incumbent’s name recognition in a race rated toss-up by multiple forecasters. A third-place progressive Democratic primary challenger who declined to endorse Perez highlighted intraparty tensions yet did not alter the general-election matchup.
