Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District carries a Democratic lean reflected in its D+4 Partisan Voter Index and consistent “Solid Democratic” or “Safe Democratic” ratings from major forecasters. Incumbent Seth Magaziner secured the Democratic nomination without opposition in the September 9 primary, while Republican nominee Victor Mellor prevailed in a contested primary but faces structural disadvantages as a recent transplant with limited name recognition and documented controversies, including participation in the January 6 Capitol events and prior foreign-agent registration tied to Cuba. These factors, combined with Magaziner’s fundraising and institutional support, underpin trader consensus on the incumbent’s strong position ahead of the November 3 general election. Shifts could still occur from unexpected national political realignments, late scandals, or unusually high turnout among Republican-leaning voters, though such developments remain low-probability given the district’s baseline.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
This market will resolve based on the result of the election as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the United States government, specifically the Federal Election Commission (https://www.fec.gov/).
