Recent August CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, with a 0.4% monthly rise driven by a 3.9% gasoline surge and 2.1% energy increase, anchors trader expectations for September. Cleveland Fed nowcasts point to 3.43%, while elevated oil prices from Middle East tensions and rising consumer inflation expectations to 4.6% support the tight clustering around 3.5% and 3.6% market-implied odds. Core measures held at 2.4% annually, reflecting shelter moderation offset by goods pressures. The October 14 release will resolve the outcome amid ongoing volatility in energy and potential tariff or AI-related cost effects.
