Rastislav Trnka, the incumbent Košice Region governor since 2017, holds the strongest position in trader assessments ahead of the October 24, 2026, single-round election, reflecting consistent polling leads of 44-53% and his record on infrastructure and regional investments. Multiple surveys show him ahead despite running as an independent following the withdrawal of prior party support amid ongoing legal proceedings over public procurement matters. Marián Porvažník benefits from an unusually broad opposition coalition of eight or nine parties, including Progressive Slovakia, SaS, KDH, and others that unified in spring and summer 2026, yet trails in head-to-head polling. Igor Šimko draws backing from several government-aligned parties but registers lower single-digit support. The remaining registered candidates, including independents, show minimal projected viability. Upcoming voter turnout and any late shifts in coalition dynamics remain key variables within the resolution window.
