Yu Shu-chen holds a commanding position in the Hualien County Magistrate race ahead of the November 28, 2026, vote because the Kuomintang formally nominated her in March after she prevailed in the party’s internal survey, securing official backing in a county that has long favored pan-blue candidates. Independent challengers including Wei Chia-hsien and Chang Chun, along with Lo Pei-chin of the Taiwan Labour Party, have registered but remain fragmented, while polling from outlets such as Storm Media and Formosa consistently places Yu ahead at roughly 30 percent support with large numbers of undecided voters. Candidate registration closed in early September and late-August probes into alleged vote-buying produced no material shift in positioning, leaving the KMT nominee’s institutional advantages and consistent lead as the primary drivers of current trader consensus.
