Wu Hsiu-hua, the Kuomintang nominee and incumbent Taitung County Council speaker, holds an 86.5% implied probability in trader consensus for the November 28, 2026, magistrate election, reflecting the county’s long-standing KMT structural advantage and the party’s early nomination of a local institutional figure to succeed term-limited incumbent Yao Ching-ling. The Democratic Progressive Party’s Chen Ying, a sitting legislator with indigenous Puyuma heritage, trails at 10% amid limited historical DPP success in the county despite her family political ties and efforts to consolidate opposition support. A handful of independents, including Li Wu Ying-chih at 0.1%, register negligible odds. Recent factors include ongoing prosecutorial scrutiny of road-widening projects linked to Wu’s associates, earlier polling showing Wu ahead by wide margins, and candidate registrations closing in early September with no major shifts in positioning. The market resolution awaits official election results.
