National Weather Service forecasts for Austin peg today's high near 100°F under mostly sunny skies with a 20% afternoon thunderstorm chance and heat indices reaching 105°F, consistent with the broader unseasonable warmth that has already produced 14 days at or above 100°F this September. Model guidance and observations support peak readings clustered in the upper 90s to low 100s, as light easterly winds limit mixing while abundant September sunshine and elevated dew points sustain elevated temperatures. This data distribution underpins the market's strong weighting toward 98-99°F, with narrower probabilities assigned to 100-101°F reflecting residual uncertainty in exact peak timing and any localized cooling from brief convection. Updated model runs and official observations through the afternoon will further refine the outcome.
