This market will resolve to "Yes" if the European Union's long-term sovereign credit letter rating is downgraded by any of the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) at any point between market creation and December 31, 2026 11:59pm ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Recent affirmations of the European Union's AAA or equivalent ratings with stable outlooks by Fitch in January 2026 and Moody's in March 2026 underpin the 69% market-implied probability against a downgrade before year-end. These reflect robust backing from highly rated member states covering debt service via the own-resources ceiling, even as aggregate EU debt approaches EUR 1 trillion by end-2027 amid Next Generation EU disbursements and defense-related borrowing. Euro-area fiscal deficits are projected to reach 3.5% of GDP in 2027 with debt-to-GDP above 90%, yet peripheral upgrades such as Portugal's Fitch move to A+ in September and Greece's positive rating trend signal contained risks without spillover to the supranational entity. Key catalysts ahead include late-2026 budget surveillance and any agency monitoring updates.
