**Erika Jurinová, the incumbent governor of Slovakia’s Žilina Region (Žilinský samosprávny kraj) since 2017 and re-elected in 2022, holds a clear lead in the October 24, 2026, election market.** She formally launched her bid for a third term in late June 2026, backed by a broad center-right and liberal coalition that includes Hnutie Slovensko, Za ľudí, SaS, Progresívne Slovensko, Demokrati, NOVA, and others. This support followed a memorandum with KDH that prompted potential rival Igor Janckulík to step aside and run for a regional assembly seat instead. Key challengers include Igor Choma (Smer-SD), a former Žilina mayor and current state secretary at the transport ministry who previously placed second with 22 percent in 2022; Martin Kapitulík (independent); Anna Belousovová (Republika); and Adam Lučanský (SNS). A late-June 2026 SANEP poll showed Jurinová at 27.8 percent and Choma at 23.9 percent amid a large undecided share, but trader pricing now reflects her incumbency advantage, record on regional infrastructure, social services, and healthcare, plus the consolidated opposition backing. No major new developments have emerged since the June announcements, leaving the field stable ahead of candidate list finalization and the October vote.
