Marianne Alto, the incumbent Victoria mayor first elected in 2022 after 12 years on council, holds a commanding lead in the October 17, 2026, municipal election. She formally launched her re-election campaign in May, highlighting progress on housing approvals exceeding 7,000 units, implementation of the community safety and wellbeing plan, and priorities around densification, regional policing, and quality-of-life investments. With nominations closing September 11, only a handful of challengers—including real estate agent Mike Harris, business owner Lyall Atkinson, and retired instructor Bruce McGuigan—have entered the race late in the cycle, citing concerns over street disorder, fiscal management, and transparency. Alto’s incumbency advantage, established council relationships, and record on mandated housing targets underpin trader consensus on her strong position, though a late surge in coordinated opposition or voter turnout shifts could narrow the outcome before election day.
