Recent Canadian CPI readings holding steady at 3.0% year-over-year in both July and August 2026, driven by elevated gasoline prices amid Middle East supply disruptions, underpin the closely matched trader consensus around the 2.5–2.9% and 3.0–3.4% annual average bands for 2026. Core measures tracked by the Bank of Canada remain near 2%, with limited evidence of broad spillovers so far, while the central bank held its policy rate at 2.25% in September citing upside inflation risks and trade policy uncertainty. Volatile energy costs and potential moderation in the second half of the year create the key swing factors for the full-year outcome.
