Recent disinflation in Mexico, with annual CPI easing to 3.26% in August 2026 from 4.45% in April amid softer non-core components like food and energy, supports the market's tight clustering around the 3.50-3.99% and 4.00-4.49% bands for 2026 annual inflation. Banxico's latest projections show headline and core measures converging only gradually toward the 3% target by late 2027, with core inflation holding near 3.88% due to sticky services prices. Key swing factors include upside risks from potential U.S. trade policy shifts, peso volatility, and geopolitical energy pressures, balanced against downside from subdued domestic demand and labor market cooling. Traders appear to price a base case of continued moderation within Banxico's tolerance band while assigning meaningful weight to slower progress.
