Frank Scarpitti maintains a dominant position in the 2026 Markham mayoral contest due to his long incumbency since 2006 and repeated strong re-election results as the city’s longest-serving mayor. Nominations closed in late August 2026 with only two challengers, Martin Ross and Stephen Edgell, entering the race for the October 16–26 voting period. Scarpitti’s established record on local infrastructure, transit initiatives, and municipal governance has reinforced trader consensus around his re-election prospects ahead of the October 26 outcome. Limited opposition and the structural advantages of incumbency in Canadian municipal elections reduce the scope for late shifts, though an unforeseen development such as a major scandal or health event before voting concludes could still alter the field.
