Multiple candidates, including frontrunners Olivier Faure and Raphaël Glucksmann alongside Jérôme Guedj, Ségolène Royal, and Emmanuel Maurel, are contesting the closed two-round Socialist primary scheduled for 9-10 October. Recent internal divisions, including the exclusion of Philippe Brun over misconduct allegations and debates over the primary's scope, have fragmented support among party members and affiliates. Glucksmann draws backing from regional figures and holds stronger national polling visibility, while Faure benefits from his role as first secretary, yet neither commands consolidated backing sufficient for an outright majority. Scheduled televised debates and the requirement for over 50 percent in the first round reinforce expectations of a runoff.
